**Gen GST is worth shortlisting when a CA or tax team wants GST refund work inside a broader compliance product.** The strongest public evidence is a current, step-by-step Annexure B import and JSON workflow. The biggest diligence task is confirming the exact licensed product and the rest of the service-export refund process.

This is an independent review of public material checked on 20 September 2026. We did not install the software, contact sales or test a generated file on the GST portal.

## What the public refund workflow shows

SAG Infotech's walkthrough describes these Gen GST steps:

1. open the Refund/RFD-01 area and select a client;
2. choose the from/to year and month;
3. open Annexure B;
4. import from GSTR-2B or the government Excel;
5. load valid data and download the template;
6. complete and save the records; and
7. generate JSON.

The walkthrough also says fields not present in GSTR-2B, including some HSN and port information, need manual entry. <a href="https://blog.saginfotech.com/annexure-b-filing-refund-form-gen-gst-software" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Gen GST Annexure B source</a>.

That is useful specificity. It establishes more than a generic “automated refunds” statement, but it covers Annexure B—not every part of an export-of-services claim.

## Strengths for a CA practice

### Client-and-period workflow

The documented flow begins with a client and period, which maps naturally to practice work. A broad GST suite can also reduce context switching when the same team handles returns, reconciliation and refund preparation.

### Import before manual entry

Importing GSTR-2B or government Excel data can reduce re-keying. The explicit manual-completion step is realistic: GSTR-2B cannot answer every refund field or eligibility question.

### Public product pricing exists

SAG publishes a product price calculator with desktop and online GST variants. That provides a starting point, although the page has multiple products, installation/update distinctions and add-ons. Obtain a written quote identifying the refund-capable package, financial year, users, GSTINs, support and taxes. <a href="https://saginfotech.com/PriceCalculator.aspx" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SAG pricing source</a>.

## What to test before buying

### Statement 3 for service exports

Ask for an end-to-end demo of invoices matched to BRC/FIRC entries, including partial receipts, one receipt covering multiple invoices, credit notes and foreign-currency differences.

### Eligibility and classification controls

Test imported services under reverse charge, actual GSTR-2B periods, temporary/permanent reversals, partial eligibility and capital goods. A product should preserve the reason for an exclusion, not merely remove the row.

### Calculation and ledger limits

Require a visible Rule 89(4) working with export turnover, adjusted total turnover, Net ITC and both ledger caps. Check that every input traces to a source.

### Review and evidence export

Confirm preparer/reviewer roles, change history, exception notes, locked final versions and export of the working papers. A CA practice needs evidence after the JSON is uploaded.

## Pricing questions

Do not compare only the headline installation rate. Ask whether the quote includes:

- the current refund and Annexure B module;
- Statement 3 for exports of services;
- desktop, hosted or online deployment;
- annual updates and statutory changes;
- additional systems, users and GSTINs;
- onboarding, migration and support; and
- rework after portal validation changes.

## Verdict

Gen GST has a credible public reason to be on a refund-software shortlist: a concrete Annexure B import and JSON workflow inside a broader GST product family. The public material reviewed does not establish how the full service-export claim performs on your data, so buy only after a realistic pilot.
